Yunisa Gunawan : Penulis Novel Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama

Jika di inspirasi minggu lalu saya mengajak anda berkenalan dengan penulis cerita anak -anak bilingual, maka di edisi inspirasi minggu ini, saya akan mengajak aAnda mengenal lebih dekat sosok penulis novel Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama, yakni Yunisa Gunawan.

Namanya memang belum setenar novelis novelis Indonesia lainnya. Kehadiran Yunisa melalui karya karya novelnya semakin meramaikan dunia sastra Indonesia yang kian marak dengan kehadiran novelis novelis muda berbakat.

Sebagai penulis paruh waktu, wanita kelahiran Yogyakarta 28 tahun silam ini sudah menelurkan 3 buah novel sejak tahun 1996. --> duh salah, udah 6 naskah tanda tangan sama penerbit sejak 2006, mungkin akan dikoreksi minggu depan setelah saya protes hehehhe

Ia yang sehari harinya bekerja sebagai tenaga riset di perusahaan Amerika yang berkantor di Singapura mengaku menulis novel merupakan wadah untuk menuangkan hobi menulis yang sudah dilakoni sejak di bangku kuliah.

Inspirasi dalam menulis bisa datang dari mana saja, biasa ide akan lahir setelah menjalani rangkaian perjalanan ke suatu tempat ataupun sesuatu yang baru di sekeliling tempat tinggalnya.[niwayans@mediacorp.com.sg]

Berita Menyedihkan: RSI mau bubar

Oh iya, lupa nulis di sini. Bagi yang udah baca koran Straits Times Rabu kemarin, pasti udah tau kalau RSI mau bubar mulai 31 Juli 2008.

MediaCorp's RSI to end transmission on July 31

MediaCorp's Radio Singapore International (RSI) will end transmission on July 31.
MediaCorp said it will redeploy all RSI staff to other areas and retrain some for new duties.
The regional shortwave radio service was set up in 1994 by the former Singapore Broadcasting Corporation.
The aim was to reach out to the region and help overseas Singaporeans keep pace with developments at home.
MediaCorp said the effectiveness of a shortwave radio service has diminished over time, with changing technology and media consumption habits.

It added while FM radio broadcast remains strong, audiences are turning to other channels such as the web and Channel NewsAsia's International feed for their news.
So it is no longer optimal to continue with a full regional radio service, which broadcasts in four languages. - CNA/vm

So aku nggak tau apa yang udah kukirim ke Mbak Wayan masih bakal diblog sama RSI atau nggak... Anyway, ini yang kukirim ke Mbak Wayan...

Pertama kali main ke RSI itu atas undangan Pak Harry, 18 Mei 2006, untuk rekaman wawancara dengan Mbak Illydea Ishak (RSI Malay) atas novel pertama saya, Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama oleh Theriza Books, Bandung.

Sabtu 3 Juni 2006 eh malah diajak langsung cuap-cuap dengan pendengar (termasuk baca SMS pendengar) sama Pak Harry. Dan ternyata Mbak Illydea waktu itu sudah mengadakan kuiz berhadiah novel saya (yang sekarang langka sekali karena penerbitnya molor cetak ulangnya)...

Banyak yang nanya apa sih isi novel saya? Ceritanya sih berlatar belakang zaman Restorasi Meiji (Pak Harry bilang kayak film Titanic aja tuh, latar belakang tidak penting hihihi), ada bayi perempuan keluarga kaya raya yang ditukar sama ibu tirinya, dibuang di tengah-tengah badai salju. Bayi itu dibesarkan oleh misionaris dari Inggris (sengaja dibuat demikian agar si bayi ini bisa dwibahasa hehehe, tau sendiri kan orang Jepang bahasa Inggrisnya rada susah). Yuki (artinya salju) tumbuh besar, jatuh cinta dengan pemuda yang akhirnya lebih memilih dijodohkan dengan gadis dari keluarga kaya demi menyelamatkan perusahaan keluarga (klasik lah, macam Siti Nurbaya). Eh taunya, ayah kandung Yuki menemukan kembali anaknya dan terjadilah huru hara di keluarga dan di kehidupan cinta para tokoh utama... Ceritanya sederhana sih, tapi banyak intrik, politik, moral cerita yang terkandung di dalamnya yang bikin pembaca gregetan (saya sudah kebal sih diprotes kanan kiri hohoho). Ada juga yang minta saya menulis lebih detil pada akhir cerita karena saya terlalu ngebut. Permintaan pembaca dikabulkan, setelah balik dari Jepang menikmati sakura bersemi di Yokohama sekaligus wawancara di NHK, sekarang saya sedang dalam proses menulis santai agar menuntaskan rasa gregetan, penasaran, jengkel dlsb dari pembaca yang selama ini menghantui tidur saya (benernya saya merasa bersalah karena sudah bikin pembaca protes-protes). Semoga nanti ada produser yang berkantong tebal, mau memfilmkan novel ini! (atau diterjemahkan ke bahasa Jepang n difilmkan di NHK juga boleh! wakakak).

30 Mei 2008 main lagi ke RSI (kali ini Siaran Indonesia) dengan Ni Wayan Suryatini (Mbak Wayan) karena ditanya Pak Harry, mau kenalan nggak sama Mbak Wayan? heheheh =D

Pertama saya kira cuma buat rubrik Inspirasi tentang tulis menulis, eh nggak taunya juga buat rubrik Wajah. Kayaknya karena saya anak yang hiperaktif, hasil fotografer amatir (Pak Harry) menjepret saya dan Mbak Wayan, 90% gagal (kalau nggak burem, ya merem). Isi wawancara sih tentang bagaimana menulis (apalagi saya bukan tipe kejar setoran). Pertama, harus banyak baca. Lalu tentang suka duka hidup di Singapura -- payah deh di sini jarang ketemu cowok ganteng atau cewek cantik! Padahal cogan itu salah satu inspirasi menulis hahahha...

Saya akan segera main ke RSI lagi dengan Mbak Wayan untuk novel trilogi (tiga buku) yang segera keluar di toko buku Juni atau Juli. Judulnya Schoolaholic Princess oleh Sheila Penerbit Andi, Yogyakarta. Buku 1: Miracle Boys; Buku 2: Romansa Singapura; Buku 3: Simfoni Cinta. Saya harap trilogi ini akan membantu adik-adik (ya lah, saya kan udah nggak sekolah lagi) untuk melihat dari sudut pandang berbeda, serta bisa menikmati kehidupan bersekolah seperti saya dulu sangat menikmati hari-hari indah dengan guru-guru killer (murid harus lebih killer biar gurunya nggak killer heheheh). Banyak tips-tips dan filosofi sukses belajar yang saya bagi di trilogi ini. Bagi yang mau tau sekolah n kuliah di Singapura itu kayak apa, silakan baca juga.

RSI ka ada website XTRA, isinya sisi lain RSI dan aktivitasnya. Kamu boleh kirim cerita nggak seputar pengalaman di wawncarai RSi dan main main ke studio RSI sekalin ceritain tentang novel novel kamu. Jangan lupa sertain foto foto ya sekitarr 3-4 foto, foto kamu, Ceritanya nggak usah banyak banyak, setengah halaman juga bolehhhh….

The last time I had an interview with RSI Mediacorp was with Illydea Ishak (RSI Malay). Last Friday I had two interviews (one for Inspirasi - Inspiration and one for Wajah - literally means Face, but here it means Profile). The interviewer was Mbak Wayan (Ni Wayan Suryatini). Yes, she is a Balinese!!!

I think I cracked quite a lot of jokes, so we laughed a lot. And being a hyperactive kid (bawaan orok maksudnya), I tend to move a lot when talking or describing something. So you can guess that the photos taken by Pak Harry Suhartanto were 90% either blurred or my eyes were blinking or closed!!! WAKAKAKA, asli gak bisa dipaparazi punya nihhh... (kecuali paparazinya my lil sis, she is truly an expert in taking pics of everyone in the family).

A Legacy...

Today I had interviews with RSI Bahasa Indonesia for WAJAH n INSPIRASI. I am making a bold statement that in 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years, people will still read my novels because of the language style I use n the story inside. Yes, I am writing literature just like Sutan Takdir Alisyahbana in the past (or Jane Austen? hahhaa)

(Even now, women in their 40-50s read n love my novel, the same way as 12-year-old or 17-year-old youngsters...) As far as I am concerned, this is pretty encouraging because I am doing the right thing I want to do.

Interferer

Today I had lunch with Mr Harry, and he has finished reading my book. Komentarnya rahasia hehehe... But one thing for sure, I know that I enjoy trapping the readers to a certain mindset (purposely mislead them) hahahha :D

In life, we have to be guarded and flexible at the same time. There are many people (interferer), who were not of any significance before, but suddenly they mess up with our life by their interference in our life. That interference can be both positive or negative. Complicated? OK, ganti ke Bahasa Indonesia. Dalam hidup tuh tiba2 sering ada perubahan drastis karena perbuatan seseorang (sebelumnya kita gak kenal, or kenal tapi gak kita anggap penting). Tapi begitu mereka berbuat sesuatu, rusak semua rencana kita atau malah semua yang ruwet jadi lancar.

So, Yunisa's message is: Always expect for the best coz God will always give you the best thing, you never know when that interferer comes to color your life! *God never tells you when*

RSI Indo on Sat nite live

Sorry for not telling you. Saturday nite live show (3 June 06, 8-10pm SGT) www.rsi.sg/indonesian, I was with Mr Harry Suhartanto in RSI studio again. The invitation just came on Thursday nite, and I completely forgot to inform anyone (but my sister Mayrinna here) due to my other work-play activities. This time around I read out smses from the listeners. And answering some questions on Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama :) Thank you for RSI listeners who have sent the sms(es)... Funny questions dan banyak salam kenal juga :-D. That's right, being a novelist, you have to use your imagination!

What I have to learn in reading smses is the culture of abbreviating the words (membuat singkatan2)... Jadi bacanya gak lancar karena nama orang, nama kota semua disingkat (weleh2). Given the nature of my daily work is dealing with formal human / business research reports, I seldom encounter such abbreviations. *Personally, that's why sometimes I find difficulties to interpret smses from my lil sis Martha Rinna and Dr Dede coz mereka juga suka menyingkat sesuka hati* Menurutku, main tebak singkatan di sms itu kayak ngisi TTS (cross word), you have to guess what the missing letters are :P

PS: I may become a part-time radio broadcaster in RSI siaran Indonesia in the future. Well, if that's the case, I can't afford sore throat :P Last week, I had one and it made me completely mute. That's why Mr Harry wrote in his e-mail (see my previous e-mail on Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama being broadcasted in Reviu www.rsi.sg/malay ) : "suara tersayangmu" (your beloved voice) hahaha

And I hope Ms Illydea will edit my spoiler of the story hehehe... But one thing for sure: PLEASE DO READ THE PAGES IN ORDER or YOU WILL GET CONFUSED!

I am myself a naughty reader. I'll skip pages and look at the last chapters, ensuring that my guess is correct. Hence, when writing this book, I was devising a plot to prevent such thing, i.e. you are forced to follow through chapter by chapter so that you can understand the plot. There are too many things and too many possibilities of story alternatives, I can assure you!

Every chapter has many problems, and the problems are solved part by part in random chapter (making use of Chaos Theory in maths hahahha). And once the problem solved, other will arise. The climax is not reached yet. Well, that is just the way I use Game Theory in playing the "emotion game of the story"... Pardon my maths background :P

Inside, you will also find that I insert school lessons on: history (sejarah) -- I use surnames (nama keluarga) involved in Meiji Restoration to name the characters, economy & finance (ekonomi & keuangan), lingustic game (permainan bahasa), Catholic / Christian religion education (agama Katolik / Kristen) and the Eastern moral values... Fuih, thanks God, Mediacorps also has some internal function this afternoon. So our novel interview will be postponed to Thursday (Kamis), 18 May 2006, lunch time onwards -- I don't need to rush from my office :) This afternoon besides the IT security compulsory talk, there will be other internal meeting, too… There are quite a lot of overseas visitors in my office now… *phew*

Novel Interview @ RSI + Available in Jogja

First, this Monday morning Mr Harry came out with a time slot for me to do the interview with him (lunch interview) and with Ms Illydea (for a real broadcasted interview) on Tuesday afternoon. After a slight delay and bargaining with my boss, coz I will need to attend a compulsory "lunch-&-learn" on IT security briefing in my company (US IT head comes esp for this) -- so I was not allowed by my go-to Manager to skip it. However, Jeffrey (my go-to Manager) asked me to find a solution... And he's happy with it :)

So I called up Pak Harry, and he greeted me by, "Nggak bisa datang ya?" hahahha... kok langsung nebak gitu sih :P
I answered, "Bisa dimundurin nggak, Pak, waktunya? Jadi jam 2-2.30 gitu?"
And it's very kind of him to delay his lunch time, and reschedule the timing...
I'll bring my camera tomorrow to take photos and post them, OK! (biar blog ini jadi meriah).

At night, my sisters @ Jogja texted me that my novel is now available in Gramedia, Jogja -- displayed as "buku baru" (new book). And they saw a young man bought my novel before their eyes! hehehe :)

The following is my answer to Mr Harry Suhartanto, Radio Singapura Indonesia during our initial discussion on my novel...

Dear Yuni,

Boleh aku mengemukakan pendapat kan Yun? Maybe ini belum "fair" karena aku belum baca novelnya secara lengkap.

1. I am just wondering kenapa harus berlatar Restorasi Meiji?
What is so special about it? Kenapa misalnya nggak jaman sekarang aja?
Apalagi konsep playboy dalam diri Dr Toru kan baru muncul jauh setelah jaman Meiji..!!

Jawab: Waktu awal nulis, saya lagi tergila-gila sama komik Jepang yang latarnya zaman Jepang mulai dimasuki orang2 Barat (jadi bajunya mulai ada yang gak pakai kimono gitu)... Terus saat yang sama, I found this old history book in my cupboard (I think it belonged to my aunt) --> pas buka, wah ada Restorasi Meiji (pas SMP-SMA, saya tidak pernah belajar itu, jadi merasa tertarik sekali hehehe).

I think karakter playboy itu ada sejak zaman dulu, e.g. raja2 (baik kerajaan Hindu, Budha, Islam, kekaisaran Cina, raja2 Perancis) pasti punya istri banyaaakkkk (resmi dan tidak resmi). So I felt like putting one playboy character inside :P Kayaknya kalau bikin cerita, kurang afdol tanpa tokoh playboy hahhaha...

Terlalu banyak tokoh?
2. Kehadiran tokoh sentralnya, Yuki, agak kurang menonjol karena "banyaknya" tokoh-tokoh lain di sekitar dia.
Maybe pambaca awam akan merasa kehilangan fokus - kepada siapa sebenarnya perhatian harus diberikan.
Pembaca "awam" Indonesia tentu nggak terbiasa dengan nama-nama Jepang sebanyak itu. Maybe!

Sekali lagi mungkin aku perlu baca novelnya secara keseluruhan. So pendapatku nanti akan lebih komprehensif dan adil.

Jawab: Memang kebanyakan tokoh sih, kan gayanya drama -- telenovela (satu cewek diperebutkan banyak cowok) hahaha. Tapi gak sepanjang Tersanjung kok :P Kayaknya kalau difilmkan, ibu2 pasti inget wajahnya pemain rather than inget nama tokohnya yah?? hehehhe Mmm, mungkin buat pembaca yang tidak biasa sama nama Jepang, agak susah juga... Tapi kalau anak muda pecandu manga, pasti no problem hehehhe :D (di Bandung ada majalah Animonster?? khusus pecinta manga, wah kaget banget pas pulang kemarin... ternyata Indo lebih maju soal ginian dibanding Spore).

Saran
3. Kalo kamu memang senang dengan suasana Jepang, kenapa nggak nyoba nulis novel dengan background di
sekitar Pangkalan Militer Amerika di Pulau Okinawa. Cuma usul, siapa tau bisa dipertimbangkan.

Kamu hebat, aku aja yang lulusan Fak Sastra Inggris UI malah nggak minat nulis novel. He...he..!!

Jawab: Minat orang kan lain-lain, Pak... Kalau emang tidak minat, ya jangan dipaksa nulis novel hehehe...
Saya blm pernah ke Jepang, jadi benernya nekad banget nulis tempat yang belum pernah dikunjungi hahhaha... Pangkalan Militer Amerika di P. Okinawa, boleh dikunjungi publik??
Anyway, saya lagi plan to finish my trilogy of teen-lit, cuma belum sreg ending buku ke-3 nya, jadi sekarang lagi gathering ideas dulu... (I always change my mind about how the story should end hiks hiks).
