Salmon crusted with crispy potato & pepperronata

Recipe for salmon from Norwegian Seafood Export Council and celebrity chef Karl Dobler from Au Petit Salut

Norwegian salmon crusted with crispy potato and pepperronata

Serves: 4
Approximate Cooking Time: 15 minutes

4 Norwegian salmon fillets (each 200g)
1 tsp sea salt
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
2 potatoes, peeled, grated and water squeezed out
20ml extra virgin olive oil

Pepperronata
30ml extra virgin olive oil
80g onions, peeled and cut into chunks
2 garlic cloves, peeled and finely chopped
1 tsp chopped red chilli
150g (each) red capsicums and yellow capsicums, cut into chunks
1tsp sea salt

Methods
Season the Norwegian salmon fillets with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Press a layer of grated potatoes (about 1-cm thick) onto one side of each Norwegian salmon fillet. Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a frying pan and sear each Norwegian salmon fillet potato side down until crispy and golden brown, for about 4 minutes. Turn the Norwegian salmon fillet over and sear until cooked, for another 20 seconds.

For the pepperronata: Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a frying pan and saute the onion chunks and chopped garlic until fragrant, for about 30 seconds. Add in the chopped red chilli, red and yellow capsicums chunks and mix well. Season with the sea salt and cover to cook slowly on medium heat until soft, for about 5 minutes.
Place the pepperronata onto the centre of each serving plate and top with a crispy potato crusted Norwegian salmon fillet.

Chef's Tips
There are many varieties of potatoes, which can either be categorised as starchy or waxy. Russet potatoes with their starchy white flesh work best for this recipe.

Nutrition Tips
What a good idea! "Sweating", or slow cooking of vegetables with little oil brings out the natural sweetness without adding any sugar. This is a creative way to introduce colourful vegetables into your daily diet.

Salmon infused with jasmine tea, shitake mushroom & ginger jus

Recipe for salmon from Norwegian Seafood Export Council and celebrity chef Karl Dobler from Au Petit Salut

Serves: 4
Approximate Cooking Time: 15 minutes

4 Norwegian salmon fillets (each 200 g), boneless and skin on
1 tbsp (each) light soy sauce, sesame oil and shredded old ginger
300 ml water
3 jasmine teabag

Ginger Jus
1 tbsp (each) sesame oil and vegetable oil
1 tsp shredded old ginger
100 g shiitake mushrooms, thinly sliced
120 ml chicken stock
1 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tbsp sliced spring onions
1 tsp butter

Methods
Marinade the Norwegian salmon fillets with light soy sauce, sesame oil and shredded old ginger in a mixing bowl for about 15 minutes.

Heat 300 ml water to a boil in a saucepan. Add in the jasmine teabag and set aside to infuse. Steam the Norwegian salmon fillets skin side up in a prepared steamer for about 4 minutes (for medium doneness). Remove the skins just before serving.

For the ginger jus: Heat the sesame oil and vegetable oil in a frying pan and saut' the shredded old ginger until fragrant, for about 20 seconds. Add in the sliced shiitake mushrooms and deglaze with chicken stock and simmer until sauce has reduced. Add in the light soy sauce and mix well. Off the heat, whisk in butter just before serving and add the sliced spring onions.

Place a steamed Norwegian salmon fillet on the centre of each serving plate and drizzle over the ginger jus.

Chef's Tips
Please ensure that the steamer is big enough to hold all of the Norwegian salmon fillets. The fillets must not touch each other to ensure that all parts of the fillets are cooked evenly.

Nutrition Tips
Mushroom goes well with salmon. Mushrooms contain a natural flavour enhancer called glutamate, a perfect complement with salmon. Creatively put together with steaming and the infusion of aromatic jasmine tea is a great plus towards healthy eating.

Serves: 4
Approximate Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:
1 Norwegian salmon fillet (about 300g), cut into 6-cm length x 3-mm thickness slices
80g green soba noodles, boiled for 3 minutes 20 seconds and refreshed in ice water
100g Japanese cucumbers, julienned and soaked in ice water for 30 minutes

Oriental Mushroom In Japanese Sesame Dressing
30g shitake mushrooms, thinly sliced
30g (each) shimeji mushrooms and enoki mushrooms
120ml Japanese sesame dressing
80g butter lettuces

Methods

  • Mix the sliced Norwegian salmon fillet, boiled green soba noodles and julienned Japanese cucumbers in a mixing bowl.

  • For the oriental mushroom in Japanese sesame dressing: Mix the sliced shiitake mushrooms, shimeji mushrooms and enoki mushrooms with the Japanese sesame dressing in another mixing bowl.

  • Add the oriental mushrooms in Japanese sesame dressing to the Norwegian salmon fillet and let marinade for bout 2 minutes. Then, add the green soba noodles and julienned Japanese cucumber and mix well.

  • Place the butter lettuces onto the centre of each serving plate and top with the Norwegian salmon fillet, green soba noodles and oriental mushrooms in Japanese sesame dressing.

    Chef's Tips

  • Cook the green soba noodles immediately before serving.

  • Ensure that the green soba noodles are being cooked in boiling water for precisely 3 minutes 20 seconds. This is to preserve the natural flavour of the noodles and also to ensure the texture is firmer.

Nutrition Tips
Eat it raw and enjoy the freshness, taste and flavour of salmon! This dish has no added oil so it's ideal for weight watchers. Next time you shop, don't forget to pick up a piece of salmon.

Ayam Gulung Pedas (Spicy Chicken Roll)

Masakan Jepang modern banyak menggunakan teknik goreng kering (deep fry) untuk bahan daging seperti ayam, babi, udang... pengaruh dari Barat (Western cooking). I suppose Yokohama had adopted this cooking technique first since it was the first open-up town for Westerners in Japan.

Kimono figurines

Well, this is interesting, but expensive. You can order your face for the doll(s). Again, the face of the models here are not beautiful enough :(

The old one suits Yuki's father and the other one I think is meant for groom? (not too sure though)

Figurines for Takuya Tosha

Well, I would explain in more details when I finish writing the supplementary novel of Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama. (No promise when I will finish writing it). Takuya Tosha is Yuki's childhood sweetheart, when both of them did not realize the mutual attaction was there. He is well versed in all sorts of martial arts... from kempo, taekwondo, karate, etc.
Too bad the faces of the figures here are not handsome (later, if this novel is filmed, it should be replaced with a much more handsome man as Takuya-san).

Will be updated: sakura in San Francisco and Cupertino

Greeting from Cupertino, CA. Well, I was not aware that when I arrived here, it was the right time to see cherry blossom until I saw the brochure in a hotel magazine... So over the weekend I went to SF and caught the Cherry Blossom festival - literally it was waaayyy tooo late, sakuranya sudah berdaun, dan tidak banyak. Then the following weekend, I went to Golden Bridge Park - there is a Japanese park - not bad, but please do not compare with the real Japan...
And I went to Cupertino memorial park before the Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival...

I have transfered the pictures to my laptop, but I am too tired now - dunno why perhaps I feel sad leaving Cupertino and will be flying 19 hours plus back to Singapore tomorrow afternoon... and the weather here is pretty cold, so I feel sleepy almost all the time.

See you in the next posting with pictures. I wish I will be back to Cupertino soon! ^_^

Visit to Aditya FM, Pekanbaru

Pertama datang, bawa cokelat n mau pamer novels hehe - can you believe that I was actually quite in a bad mood??? Demi pose di blog, harus pasang senyum no matter what!
23 January 2009

Well, well, well...
That is what I learn. No cover up here, I just spill the beans out, tanpa tedeng aling-aling lagi.

Welcome to Pekanbaru, Yun -- that was what Pak Harry said. Lain ladang, lain belalang; lain lubuk, lain ikannya. Beda daerah, beda adat / behaviournya.

Sampai akhirnya, saya samperin aja radionya setelah sarapan (Jumat, 23 Jan 09). Waktu itu saya bilang ke geng saya (Kak Rus, Mag, adikku Riana): just drop the chocolate, if there is no warm reception alias gak ada sambutan, kita cabut aja. For the sake of courtesy dulu aku udah janji bakal drop by ke Aditya FM kalau aku ke Pekanbaru... Syukur-syukur bisa ketemu Robby or Nadine. If not, ya udah deh, bye-bye aja...

Rupanya Tuhan mendengarkan keluhan saya. Robby ada di kantor. HOREEEE!!! Semua yang kacau jadi membaik... I am quite pleased about that :)
Robby nanya dikit soal acara promo Schoolaholic sorenya, dan berjanji datang abis dia siaran. Lalu dia bilang masih penasaran sama novel Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama ^_^

Voila, segalanya berubah! Dengan ramah dan apologetic Robby menjelaskan masalahnya - next time better contact him directly - dan ternyata Penerbit Andi cabang Riau menghubungi bagian marketing - itulah mengapa tidak ada respons --> because you don't contact the right person.
It's a matter of whom you know, still...

Ini masih melihat ke arah kamera lain

Akhir, fokus ke kamera ini

Interview with Aditya FM Pekanbaru

Sorry, I am late in updating. Actually I had a tele-interview (I called in to the radio) with Aditya FM Pekanbaru (87.6FM) last Tuesday, 11 Nov 08. It was a morning show with Nadine and Robby.
The recording will be e-mailed to me soon. I will upload it to my multiply and give the link here (to be updated)

Well, we talked a lot about this novel Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama, my life in Singapore -- whether it affects my writing hobby (oh yes! definitely working full-time with clocking 300 hours a month to plenty projects really makes me unable to write any fiction...) And one of the audiences asked me when Schoolaholic Princess Trilogy will come to Pekanbaru... And I was teased a lot because I killed the favorite male lead HAHAHAH...

I will be off to Sydney soon (thanks to my second novel Sydney Darling Harbour) -- I won a quiz of Romantic Sydney Getaway from 91.3FM (a radio in Singapore).

PS: I will drop by in Aditya FM next January 2009 and hold a novels promo in Gramedia Pekanbaru.

(emang iya?? hehe...). Bukunya agak kecil, tapi tebel. Harganya kebetulan saya lupa, hehehe..

TICKLED PINK
by Gareth Corsi

When the cherry blossoms appear in the parks, the Japanese come out in droves to celebrate and party.

The hanami season really doesn’t mean an awful lot outside of Japan. Most people would probably still be none the wiser about it were it not for Ken Watanabe’s character Lord Katsumoto and his ode to the sakura or cherry blossom in the 2003 film, The Last Samurai.

“The perfect blossom is a rare thing. You could spend your life looking for one, and it would not be a wasted life,” Katsumo mused.

While such sentiment might be considered a little on the romantic side, it is not without merit. The hanami season, which celebrates the blossoming of the sakura, is a time when the usually quiet and reserved population of Japan goes nuttier than a fruit cake.

Hanami is a pretty time in Japan

The cherry blossom blooms across the Japanese islands every spring, beginning in Okinawa in late March and ending in Hokkaido in early May. The flowers last for about two weeks, depending on the weather. Almost as soon as the buds begin to open in parks, castles and river banks around the country, yatai (temporary market stalls) sprout everywhere in anticipation of a swarm of customers.

Typically the yatai sell karaage (pieces of fried chicken in batter), yakitori (grilled chicken on a skewer), yakisoba (fried noodles with cabbage) and takoyaki (pieces of fried octopus in batter). And the customers they expect, always turn up – in droves.

At the height of the bloom, trying to reserve a spot in a prime location right under the trees becomes an exercise in timing and tactical awareness. Too soon, and there’s nothing to see. Too late, and all the blooms have become litter, ready to be swept away.

A sight almost synonymous with the cherry blossom itself at this time of the year is the blue tarpaulin. Garnered from local D-I-Y stores, the tarp serves to protect one’s derrière from the mud (grass is a much more rare a sight in Japan than an honest politician) and also to mark out territory for friends and colleagues, for hanami is not a solitary celebration.

Parents bring their young families, while teenagers – past that time when it is socially acceptable to be seen with their parents – hang out with their friends, and people in general gather to enjoy the occasion. Parties are common, especially when it’s a corporate affair.

However, in the latter case it is a cruel irony for some that hanami should be such a miserable time. The junior salarymen have an unenviable job during this time – they have to guard their company’s spot for the duration of hanami.

More often than not this means camping out on the site their company has staked out so as to evict any would-be squatters. Sleeping out under the stars might not seem such a terrible task in the Japanese spring. After all, winter has gone and the haru-ichiban winds now bring up warmer air from the equator.

However, haru-ichiban is more of a blast than a breeze, and it turns cold at night. Add a downpour into the mix, and nobody in his right mind would want to be caught in a wet sleeping bag and clothes, let alone waking up and explaining to an irate boss why there are strangers in his favourite spot.

Teenagers hang out with friends to enjoy the cherry blossoms

Nevertheless, the young graduates still make the most of their lot and they party hard — as do the new university students.

The cherry blossom season marks the start of the financial and academic new year in Japan. It is a time for the youngsters to celebrate before embarking on another stage in their life. Usually quite a few have still not figured out their tolerance for alcohol, which can be quite a messy thing.

One of the more extreme examples of alcohol taking its toll was when one unfortunate freshman had a sudden meeting with the asphalt.

His four friends took pity on him, and so proceeded to carry him out of the park and put him in a taxi.

All was going according to plan until the unconscious young man woke up and – believing himself to be safely tucked in bed - decided he wasn’t comfortable on his back and tried to turn over.

Somehow that ended up with him having another sudden meeting with the asphalt.

Such incidents happen across the country as the parties continue late into the night or even until daybreak – and beyond.

While not exactly party animals, the Japanese know how to let their hair down.

It is, after all, that time of the year when they loosen the shackles of winter and prepare for a long summer of festivals and merriment.

And hanami is just the start...

Hallo Yunisa cah ayu.. aku sudah kelar baca novelnya, 3 hari habis, aku ngebut sreeet..jreeng.. yaah.. Shinichi kok dimatiin, Yun? Aku sedih banget.

Namanya memang belum setenar novelis novelis Indonesia lainnya.

Silakan klik judulnya... HEH telat banget, sakura season udah lewat, baru ditulis sekarang hahahaha

Paling tepat: 1 Maret search tanggal prediksi mekarnya sakura, terus diliat historical dates, make your own judgment.

Hanami, Menikmati Bunga Sakura Bermekaran

Pesta Taman

Sudah menjadi sebuah kultur, seluruh penduduk Jepang menantikan tibanya bunga sakura bermekaran. Mereka antusias memandangi bunga sakura.

Berkelompok

Bunga sakura biasa ditanam berkelompok.

Suhu JC bukan orang pertama yang komplain, dan bukan orang terakhir heheheh =D Pernah tuh temenku, lagi makan, ngobrol sana sini, tau-tau OOT (out of topic) dia ngomong:
"Eh Yun, orang Jepang bisa berubah jadi bule Amerika ya?"
Aku nggak ngeh, sampai akhirnya dia ngakak n bilang, "Itu tuh novelmu!"
*O*

Karena resensi Suhu gak lolos sensor Zeverina (atau mungkin dia bakal mau tayang setelah Z selesai baca novelnya), bagi KoKiers yang penasaran, inilah resensi Suhu Josh Chen - Global Citizen... Paragraf pembukaannya terlalu panjang hehehe

Resensi Buku: Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama
A Novel by Yunisa
(Josh Chen – Global Citizen)

“Once you pop, you can’t stop!”

Berita Menyedihkan: RSI mau bubar

Oh iya, lupa nulis di sini. Bagi yang udah baca koran Straits Times Rabu kemarin, pasti udah tau kalau RSI mau bubar mulai 31 Juli 2008.

MediaCorp's RSI to end transmission on July 31
By Imelda Saad, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 03 June 2008 1848 hrs

MediaCorp's Radio Singapore International (RSI) will end transmission on July 31.
MediaCorp said it will redeploy all RSI staff to other areas and retrain some for new duties.
The regional shortwave radio service was set up in 1994 by the former Singapore Broadcasting Corporation.
The aim was to reach out to the region and help overseas Singaporeans keep pace with developments at home.
MediaCorp said the effectiveness of a shortwave radio service has diminished over time, with changing technology and media consumption habits.

It added while FM radio broadcast remains strong, audiences are turning to other channels such as the web and Channel NewsAsia's International feed for their news.
So it is no longer optimal to continue with a full regional radio service, which broadcasts in four languages. - CNA/vm
----------------------------------------

The last time I had an interview with RSI Mediacorp was with Illydea Ishak (RSI Malay). Last Friday I had two interviews (one for Inspirasi - Inspiration and one for Wajah - literally means Face, but here it means Profile). The interviewer was Mbak Wayan (Ni Wayan Suryatini). Yes, she is a Balinese!!!
Mbak Wayan tertawa lepas :D

I think I cracked quite a lot of jokes, so we laughed a lot. And being a hyperactive kid (bawaan orok maksudnya), I tend to move a lot when talking or describing something. So you can guess that the photos taken by Pak Harry Suhartanto were 90% either blurred or my eyes were blinking or closed!!! WAKAKAKA, asli gak bisa dipaparazi punya nihhh... (kecuali paparazinya my lil sis, she is truly an expert in taking pics of everyone in the family).

Ketawa ketiwi sampe mata sipit hihihi *_*

Yeah, I am quite photogenic if you ask me to pose, and not for candid camera when I was hilariously having fun...

Jadi ya, I completely forgot to ask about it.

So surprised to find this person -- I assume he/she lives in Japan, n definitely is able to understand Bahasa Indonesia... -- and with Google's help, I found this post about my NHK interview.

Don't ask me artinya apa itu huruf Jepangnya, karena aku bisa dibilang "buta huruf kotak2" -- well, cuma bisa mengenali sedikit sekali karakter sih... So I have dropped an e-mail pakai Bahasa Indonesia (hahahha, PD amat kumat, kan pasti NHK Siaran Indonesia yang harus reply me?).

Terima kasih, Arigato gozaimasu!

Ini blog dari Jepang

A Legacy...

Today I had interviews with RSI Bahasa Indonesia for WAJAH n INSPIRASI. I am making a bold statement that in 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years, people will still read my novels because of the language style I use n the story inside. Yes, I am writing literature just like Sutan Takdir Alisyahbana in the past (or Jane Austen? hahhaa)

(Even now, women in their 40-50s read n love my novel, the same way as 12-year-old or 17-year-old youngsters...) As far as I am concerned, this is pretty encouraging because I am doing the right thing I want to do.

Yokohama Chinatown (Day 8)

This is probably the largest Chinatown in the world. It is so BIG and has little signs of direction. Unlike Singapore's Chinatown which is surrounded by big roads, this Yokohama's Chinatown is like villages (kampong in Malay, kampung Cina dalam Bahasa Indonesia). And Melbourne's is literally the smallest Chinatown I've ever been with only 1 stretch of road.

I was lost literally in Yokohama's Chinatown! It felt not being in Japan, but in an ancient China but... people talk in Japanese here and there hahaha. So I was finding my way out of it, heading for Motomachi.

The food in Chinatown Yokohama is really BIG in size / portion, n since I was alone, I didn't have any apetite. Well, my parents gonna love this food thingy. Japan high quality ingredients plus Chinese food standard seasoning...

Yokohama Port Hill 3: Museum (Day 8)

Next time I will really hunt all the good stuff in Yokohama!

Memfoto pake timer, waduh celana saya gulungannya jadi gak rapi abis naik gunung heehhe
Dari sisi lain, hiks, deretan itu banyak rumah Eropa tapi saya gak sempat menelusurinya...

*next time, probably!*

Back side with sakura... busyet, cantik yahh

Yunisa berhanami tanpa tikar hahaha, rontokan sakuranya cantik

Check out that for the links for the route that I walk by (and miss a lot due to time constraints. Certainly a day is not enough).

Yokohama Port Hill 2: Sea View (Day 8)

Ini namanya Port Hill, Bukit Pelabuhan... bisa melihat laut, letaknya berseberangan dengan Yamashita Park (tapi jangan harap jalan datar ya, mesti olah raga mendaki bukit)...
Anyway for sea view, I prefer Yamashita Park.

Zoom laut, keliatan Intercontinental Hotel tuh
Jembatan Yokohama dan lautnya

Yokohama Port Hill 1- Sakura Garden (Day 8)

Manusia begitu kecil, ciptaan Tuhan begitu agung...
Romantis buat syuting jalan2 (Produser, setuju gak sama saya?)

Yunisa posing with pink sakura tree using timer in her camera hehe
See the fallen petals n the still blossoming sakura... It's priceless (kayak iklan MasterCard aja)
Hello there! See the contrast between sakura n the other greens

Yokohama: Scenery Spots for Future Shooting (Day 8)

Museum Arsip (Archive) -- mirip rumah Eropa kuno
Sakura Playground, cantiknyaaa

Cherry blossoms in Yokohama (Day 8)

Area surrounding or heading to Foreign Cemetery and Yamate Catholic Church (Enoki Tei Cafe included) has the most beautiful cherry blossom (I think because they are uphill, the highest point in Yokohama? So the weather is pretty cool)... Sejuk hawanya, abis capek mendaki tetep perlu pake mantel biar gak kerasa dingin...

(gara2 sakuranya bersemi hahaha)
Garden Bluff penuh sakura, pingin ngafe di sana tapi waktunya gak cukup... HIKS HIKS, next time, Yokohama I am coming again!!!

Yokohama: Motomachi (Day 8)

This is the shopping alley in Yokohama, Motomachi, in between Chinatown area n Cemetery area. Plenty varieties, but it's difficult to get my size (despite I look slim, I am still big in Japanese petite standard. I am oh-so-very Western size with broad shoulder and my height). But you can find cute (Mickey, Minnie stuff) in one of the shops there... And there is a linkway to the Foreign Cemetery (I found it on the way back from the Cemetery).

Sale @ Motomachi is every February (kata brosur, orang2 seluruh Jepang bakal menyerbu Motomachi)

Cantiknyaaaa
Ini gang tembus kuburan - Motomachi

Selected Japan Photos

Last night, finally, Dorothy, my new friend from Japan tour sent me my pictures in her camera (wakakaka, saya nagih utang siangnya, masa udah sebulan belon dikirim padahal saya sudah kirim begitu upload ke laptop).
Anyway, small size, so just nice to upload them here :)
Thanks, Dort!

Kuil Kiyomizu dibangun tanpa paku (biasa nih semua kuil di Jepang, Thailand, Korea sama!)

Di depan kedai teh (tea house)

Bersama dua gadis Jepang berkimono di Kiyomizu Temple, Kyoto

(sayang sandal mereka gak difoto, tinggi banget bo', kayak "teklek" super high heel hehe)

Dear Sir / Madam,

I would like to submit my novel titled Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama published in Bandung, 2006, and this novel has earned interviews in RSI Malay and NHK, Japan recently. Unfortunately I do not have enough copies with me now (my novel is going to be reprinted and what I have with me is only 3 copies of the first edition). Actually I have donated 5 copies to National Library and 2 copies to NUS Library (see below). I was wondering whether you would be kind enough to allow me submit 3 copies instead of 6?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Awaiting your reply,
Yunisa

Yokohama, a Harbor City (Day 8)

In Yamashita Park, you can see Hikawa Maru (kapal beneran yang diparkir di sana). Marine Tower (Menara Marina) tutup, ternyata dua-duanya sedang dilelang... I thought it was due to renovation *too positive thinking* Ayumi-san told me that people usually enjoy hanami under sakura trees in Yamashita park... When I was there, people were jogging n I was blinded by the beauty of the sea. Namanya bener2 "jogging with view", nice weather, nice scenery...

Laut biru / Ocean Blue (biar kayak judul lagu hehhee)

The corner of Yamashita Park walking from Queen King Jack area

Patung pertama: gadis bersepatu (merah?)

Berpose dengan patung penjaga air (Dewa Air? gak ngerti deh)

Yokohama Queen, King, Jack (Day 8)

All of them are actually government buildings (or custom checking???) Just click the link to find out more info.
The three buildings are located in each junction... (persimpangan jalan)
"Ratu" mengintip di balik ranting-ranting sakura yang belum bersemi This is the Queen, the highest among the three
King
Tetangga mereka, NHK Yokohama
The shortest (and the newest) among the three, Jack

Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse (Day 8)

Kunjungan Sabtu pagi 5 April 2008
Akeranga Soko literally means red brick (bata merah).
(Terjemahan Wikipedia hehehe)

Dari luar, gede banget, warnanya merah

Ada taman cantik di musim semi
Super cantik tamannya
Kalau winter jadi tempat ice skating (kayak Central Park NYC)
Mobil balap dipamerkan
Tampak samping HONDA race car, banyak yang nonton

Foto2 Yokohama lagi (Day 8)

Just back from HK last night. Ini mau melunasi utang upload foto Yokohama ya...
My favorite part of Yokohama: Sakura!!!
I love this part: jalan raya bersakura, dilihat dari beranda mall (Queen's @ Minato Mirai)

Taman bermain Cosmo World dengan sakura
Kapal Nippon Maru dengan sakura
Cosmo World dengan sakura lagi (atas bawah)

This view takes my breath away...

Interview @ NHK

Hmm, mesti nanya Bu Lily apakah bisa disimpenin file rekaman kalau nanti disiarkan hehehe
Gotta ask Mrs Lily whether she could save the recorded file once it is aired later hehehe

Seingat saya, topik utama adalah sakura. Yes, sakura was the main topic.
Mengapa saya tour melihat sakura? (self-fulfilment because of my first novel titled Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama)

(It's a metaphore. Cherry blossoms is so romantic and the main scene of the novel is the wedding ceremony during the cherry blossoms *_*)
There is only one person who can guess why I titled my novel that way correctly. She is Mrs Johanna Wulansari Istanto, convenor of Indonesian language at NUS. Not a surprise as she is an Indonesian language "expert" and she lived in Yokohama in the past.

Have I seen sakura in other countries? (hehehe, Korea last year)

Bagaimana pengalaman melihat sakura itu? How is the experience of viewing sakura?
Secara mikro dan secara makro... Micro view, the flower is so simple... (bunganya sederhana) Macro view, when it's a stretch of sakura trees, wow! it's incredible! especially if you see the degradation of the colour from pink to white... (Tapi secara makro, kalau serentetan pohonnya, wow! Degradasi warna dari pink sampai putih...)

I can't recall other questions, but I think the standard question like my future novels, who encouraged me to write (Dr Dede was the first person - with no teaching background who has similar opinion as my former teachers and lecturers).

My wish... someday I can walk enjoying the cherry blossoms (especially in Minato Mirai area, and not necessarily the foreign cemetery in Yokohama) with my future husband, together with my parents and his parents!!!

Main ke NHK Studio di Tokyo

Jumat siang, 4 April 2008
Friday Afternoon @ NHK Studio Shibuya (bacanya Shibuyak)

Cerita background

Wah insting saya langsung memerintahkan, English English...

NHK Building at NHK Studio Park, Tokyo, Japan

Ini saya di studio rekaman. HAHAHAH, of course it's me *_* posing at recording studio

This is Mrs Lily Yulianti Farid and me. She was the one who interviewed me (despite the night before, on the phone she did not tell me that she was going to interview me hahahah) Bersama Ayumi-san (dia tinggal di Yogyakarta setahun, kuliah di UGM lho... Terus di Jakarta setahun). Orangnya baik dan ramah sekali. Senyumnya manis *_* sekali seperti Bibi saya di Yogya. Bahasa Indonesianya lancar bin lancarrrrrr... =D Senang sekali deh ngobrol sama Ayumi-san, rasanya seperti ngomong-ngomong sama orang Indonesia, setelah berhari-hari dicekoki Bahasa Mandarin di tour ANA dan Bahasa Jepang di semua tempat wisata, hotel, everywhere, saya setengah mati menggabungkan Bahasa Inggris dan Tarzan (kadang pakai kamus Jepang juga) buat komunikasi sama orang Jepang hahahha *_*

With Ayumi-san (she stayed in Yogyakarta for a year, studying at the best university in my hometown, Gadjah Mada University. Then she stayed in Jakarta for a year). She is very kind and very friendly. Her smile is soooo sweet *_* reminds me of my aunt at home. her Indonesian is very good, very fluent, just like native speaker!!! I love talking to her, it feels like I was talking to fellow Indonesian, after days I was forced to listen to Mandarin tour guide and hearing people speaking Japanese everywhere. I combined English and Tarzan gesture (with Japanese pocket dictionary) to communicate with Japanese hahaha...

Yokohama is the best!

Konichiwa, saya sudah balik Sg lagi kemarin tengah malem, terus bongkar2 koper. Tapi foto n video semua masih belum diupload... Mesti inget bluetooth yang di HP...
To do list masih banyak:
It's like not just a dream, it's like I am doing a site visit to survey if my novel is filmed in the future... It's like God has planned everything for me...
You definitely need more than a day to explore Yokohama!

Day 9: TMG Building n Ueno Park

Last day in Tokyo, I still went to several places...

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building with sakura blooming! Sigh, my post card kayaknya gak nyampe :( Ini gedung Pemerintah, lantai 45? buat observation deck, gratis. Nearest station: Shinjuku. Ada North and South Observation Tower
The green part is Meiji Shrine (kinda Central Park in Tokyo).
Dibuat pake mesin each 300 yen, susahnya setengah mati coz language options: Japanese, Korean, Chinese
Antre di lift (only 2 lifts available), the Q is getting longer...
My brunch: clear brooth of ramen @ Shinjuku, not as delicious as expected

High temple n sakura tree @ Ueno Park, so pretty!
Pretty pink sakura @ Ueno park
Patung @ Ueno Park
These photos were taken by one of the Japanese girls (I took their pics first hehehe)

Pose terakhir (final pose instructed by the Japanese girl who took all my pics with sakura)

Day 8: Tokyo sight at night

From Yokohama, I was back to Tokyo. I took some pics on Ginza at night, Roppongi at night (where you can see Tokyo Tower) and Tokyo City View @ Roppongi Hills (Mori Art Center). Learning more about myself: I dislike abstract, "ugly" art. I love those beautiful meticulously done and informative arts.

Tokyo Tower from Roppongi street
Ginza at night, crowded but shops closed at 8pm
Taman Bergantung @ Ginza (near Zara)
Roppongi Hill building (mall, Mori Art Center, observation deck)

Day 8: Toko Roti Enoki bener2 ada!!!

Tetangga Enoki, cantik ada sakuranya
Yamate Museum ada mobil parkir oiiii
Yamate Museum

Gotta tell my lil sis Martha Rinna Dewi who created the romantic scene at Enoki bakery. Enoki really exists!!! What an accurate imagination of a 9-year-old then! And the European houses can be Satsuma residence, Serizawa residence wakakkaka *daya khayal tinggi*

Quoted from AsiaOne

With the presence of many European-designed residences, walking along the Yamate Bluff district gives one a radically different feeling to the modern Yokohama.
Yamate Bluff from AsiaOne (I didn't take the pics as it was too crowded)
Admire the long-standing Yokohama Yamate Church, and take a visit to the Yamate Museum to learn more about its history.

And don't forget to catch a view of Yokohama from the Yokohama Foreign Cemetery Museum, perched on a hilltop. The entrance states, "No admittance to general public except the formal visitors to graves".
Lastly, enjoy a cup of tea with delectable cakes at the exquisite Enoki-tei café. The café resides in a beautiful house which has been delicately restored to preserve its traditional feel.

Day 8: Yamate Church, Yokohama

Yamate Church, it was destoyed by bomb and rebuilt in 1947?

Salib yang ada doa St Fransiskus Assisi

  • A Prayer by Saint Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace:
    Where there is hatred, let me bring love;
    Where there is injury, let me bring pardon;
  • Where there is discord, let me bring union
    Where there is doubt, let me bring faith;
  • Where there is error, let me bring truth
    Where there is despair, let me bring hope;
    Where there is darkness, let me bring light;
Where there is sadness, let me bring joy.
(the italics weren't inscribed in the stone of Yamate church)

Dari seberang jalan

When I visited that Catholic church, there was a mass there, so I didn't go in (apalagi misanya pake bhs Jepang hahhaa).

Day 8: Yokohama's Foreign Cemetery

Sakura inside cemetery
Wow, the corpses can do hanami as well, I think *hihihihihi*
Kuburan di atas bukit, capek mendakinya

Produser, ternyata kuburannya cantik sekali!!!

There is a Catholic cemetery complex (in front of Yamate church). Very suitable for my novel's shooting *_*

Day 7/8: Yokohama Sore & Pagi

The same road in the evening and in the morning... Jalan yang sama, posisi matahari yang berlawanan :)
Sea view - Kota Pelabuhan mutakhir pada pagi hari... Ini yang membuat Yokohama cantik dari atas :)
These photos are taken from my hotel room (59th Floor) of Landmark Tower.

Day 7: Kishamichi Promenade @ Yokohama

I love this city! Sky crappers from Kishamichi Promenade

Nippon Maru, Landmark Tower

Nippon maru, all sky crappers from Kishamichi Promenade (2km)

This promenade over the sea using 500 meters of the original Harbor railroad track opened to traffic in 1911, is reminiscent of those early days. Visitors can have a fine view of the skyline of the skyscrapers in Minato Mirai 21 district. This promenade is a shortcut from Sakuragi-cho Station to Yokohama World Porters.
Cosmo World, Sakura, InterContinental from Kishamichi Promenade
I never feel happier... Man-made high tech building combined with God-made pretty sakura... It was just superb! It's the utmost delightful indulgence ever!!! Kishamichi Promenade (it actually has been there since early 1900) is my favorite place in the world *_* My highlight of Japan trip is Yokohama!

Landmark Tower from Kishamichi Promenade

This is also from Kishamichi Promenade area

Day 7: Yokohama - Swan of the Pacific

First, I would like to introduce a distinctive feature of Minato Mirai area that symbolizes Yokohama as a port city (kota pelabuhan). Oh well, my grandfather's name means NAVY, so here it is: a beauty from the sea, Swan of the Pacific, Nippon-maru.
Nippon Maru is a handsome ship that sailed 1,830,000 kilometers between 1930 and 1984. Yokohama Maritime Museum, which specializes in ports and ships, is located beside the Nippon-maru, and in the "Trip Around the Port of Yokohama" corner, historical materials displayed span the period from the arrival of Commodore Perry's black ships up until the present day.
In front of Landmark Tower, with superb view of Cosmo World

Two beauties (Nippon Maru n Sakura) at night

Day 7: Cosmo World, World Porters, Yokohama

First, from Landmark Tower I headed north. I found Hard Rock Cafe. The salesperson can say Terima kasih! when I told her I am from Indonesia heheheh

Hard Rock Cafe Yokohama @ Queen's Mall basement
This is Cosmo World, theme park with one of the highest Ferris Wheels in the world (Taman Bermain dengan salah satu bianglala terbesar di dunia)... Ada jamnya juga...

Heading to World Porters

Junction near World Porters, mirip Omaha yahh, convention center etc. HEHEHE, Same as Yokohama, Omaha also has one of the biggest convention centers in the world.
Linkway @ World's Porter Mall, so pretty n artistic

Shinchan the Movie WAAAA

Sakura at World Porters

Day 7: Landmark Tower & Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama

Superb view of Landmark Tower with Sakura (up close)

WOW!!!!!!!!!

Happy... really with Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama
Happy......................

Day 7: Yokohama (Intro)

Konbanwa!!! I think I will have many postings for Yokohama... It is the most beautiful city in Japan, IMO!!! Kirei desu ne!!! I never feel happier despite traveling alone without speaking the language, knowing nobody in that city, plus didn't feel hungry at all (kenyang makan scenery sakura hahhaa)...
Please enjoy my videos...

Future Producer, please click on the link, the Yokohama official is very supportive of filming!

Day 7: Harajuku (Part 3)

From NHK, I was advised to walk to Yoyogi Park to Harajuku - passing the Meiji Shrine -- and take the train back to Shibuya to head for Yokohama... It was worth the scenery!

Near NHK, this stretch of green reminds me of Nami Island Korea
Graffiti Bridge and sakura behind! See the many steps on the bridge. No wonder I felt so tired n so muscular after the Japan trip...
Kirei desu! See the petals on the ground as well
This sakura stretch belongs to Yoyogi Stadium
Meiji Shrine, sayang tidak cukup waktu buat main ke sana, mesti seharian penuh kayaknya
From the top of the bridge. This is the junction between Meiji Shrine, Harajuku station and Harajuku
Harajuku train station
Friday afternoon is not weekend yet, I didn't see the comical Harajuku girls, but it's also crowded!
Back to Shibuya train station, going to Yokohama

Day 7: NHK Insider Tour (Part 2)

It is called NHK Studio Park, of course it is in the middle of parks... There is Yoyogi Park & Stadium nearby. There is Meiji Shrine (National Park, if I am not mistaken). And it has a very spacious parking lots. Basically it is an old building erected in 1960s, but it is self-sufficient, just like a town by itself. NHK Building has its own supermarket, book store (Japanese books only though), a bank (ATMs and tellers). Much better facilities than Mediacorp, I shall say as NHK is also easily accessible (no need to take Tokyo expensive taxi ride).

I feel that I am quite lucky and blessed to have chances visiting Media station with invitation from an insider (from TVRI Jogja in high school time due to my province geographic competition shooting - my team won the first prize and I was the spokeperson haha, then Mediacorp, then this NHK).

You'll find this everywhere, Nanami-chan, one of the mascott for children shows. It reminds me of a drink called Qoo in Singapore (is it a Japanese brand?)

To join the studio tour, you have to pay about 200 yen? It was free in the past, but many homeless people often use this studio to take a nap, so NHK starts to charge people. Anyway, I didn't have to pay coz of Bu Lily hehehe =) There is this learning studio where children tried to be news reader, weather forecast, etc. The result is shown in the TV monitor (bottom right). Bu Lily asked me to try (sudah jauh-jauh ke NHK masa gak mau coba sih?). She told me: tell them you want the script in English or Indonesian. Eigo! Eigo! Fortunately I lost in paper-sccissor-stone -- kalah hopimpah hahaha *bersaing sama anak-anak, memalukan yahh*

There is a dubbing studio, unfortunately all the scripts are in Japanese n saya buta huruf Jepang!!! Padahal itu ada yang Shin-chan! SOBZ. Seandainya my lil sis Martha Rinna (atau at least Riana) ada di situ, pasti lucu banget dubbing suara Shin-chan...

Memfoto diri sendiri (kesyuting)
NHK has on-site shooting (the old Japanese village, house, samurai-thingy, just like those you find in comics). I was able to watch some shooting from the window above the shooting site (it's like medical interns in Grey's Anatomy observing the surgery from the special room-stage). It was so exciting!

With Mrs Lily, I went around to see what is inside NHK office... Berantakan, ya rada mirip kantor Mediacorp deh... Tapi ini completely open cubicle concept... Japanese culture (as I learnt in my MBA study)...

Ternyata di bagian siaran Bahasa Indonesia, semuanya bisa Bahasa Indonesia (of course!). I remember a funny story told by Pak Harry during lunch at Plaza Singapura yesterday (24 April). In the 1990s, he was working with BBC and there was this media conference. His boss from BBC is an Englishman, and there was this NHK boss (Japanese). The Japanese could not speak an understandable English, and the English could not speak Japanese. Guess what language they used then? Bahasa Indonesia!!! HAHAHA, lucu banget ya, bule sama orang Jepang malah lancar asyik ngobrol dalam Bahasa Indonesia =D

Day 7: Tsukiji (Part 1)

My tour has ended. So I took the train from Narita to Ueno (1000 yen, the cheapest, and it is not JR line, I had to take the Keisei line -- but the JR girl was so kind to point out where I could get the tix!)... Oh thanks to the sweeper (cleaner man), he found that I drop my ticket!!! Without the tix, I can't go out...

The girl at Tourism Center @ Ueno said that the Tsukiji Market, Tsukijishijo station has closed (I reached there around 11am). So she asked me to take Tsukiji line. She gave me the useful map of all trains in Tokyo :) Alighting at Tsukiji station, I found a temple, Hongwanji and snapped some pictures (especially the Sakura trees).

Pretty in Pink
Pretty in white n a lot of people!!!
This is behind the temple, I was attracted by the stretch of sakura!
The temple is still in operation

Gerai sushi di Tsukiji, take away counter only... I was quite hungry again by then so I just bought at the first shop I saw, being fed up with my tour hotel breakfast that morning.
Some of my favorites: (from top left: salmon sushi, cuttlefish sushi, ginger fish sushi - dunno the correct name, tamago sushi. bottom left: unagi sushi, fish roe sushi, dunno what sushi, ebi sushi... )

The ginger fish is DAMN GOOD! Oh well, I actually also love fried soft-shell crab temaki... Gomen-nasai, koko doc! *My gastroenterologist will scold me if he knows all the raw things I always eat!*

I went to McD (if you find this, just walk straight and you will reach Ginza in 20 minutes). McFlurry is so creamy n comes in big portion. McPork is yummy (although I am not into burger, but this one is an exception). From McD Tsukiji, I need to take the Ginza line to go to NHK, Shibuya...

Day 6: Disneyland Tokyo (part 2)

Japanese is very good at performing. I spent 2 discs on recording the show... This one is from my camera... (can't make it into DVD, need to learn any trick if anyone can share with me?). The show is called Minnie oh Minnie (I thought it was Minnie Mouse). But apparently it turned out to be marching band... They literally memorize every Disney song... and interact with audience's requests. Zero mistake as per my musically trained ears can catch. They are really, really good... All the live performances worth Qing... As a used-to-be performer since small, I know that such high quality performance requires both talents and training, especially for teamwork performance (e.g. musical assemble or dancing). Thumbs up. I really love going to Disneyland for the shows... Anaheim has much more exciting shows, but still, I also love the shows in Tokyo :) *Dasar maniak show*

Cerita lucu
Pas naik Pirates of Caribbean (I have ridden this in Anaheim), saya kebagian duduk sama satu cowok dan adik / sepupu / keponakan laki-lakinya, (gak ngerti, mereka jarang ngomong satu sama lain, cuma pas ngomong dalam Bahasa Jepang). Cowok itu lumayan ganteng bagi ukuran selera cewek normal (cowok itu gak terlalu feminin maksudnya, habis semua cowok Jepang yang saya amati itu kombinasi pendek, feminin atau pakai make up! sama sekali not my type, jadi merasa lebih happy cuci mata di Korea deh, cowoknya tinggi2 n cakep2 walau mungkin hasil operasi plastik? hihihi).

Anyway, itu cowok pakai bando Mickey or Minnie (gak tau deh haha, kuping tikus aja ingetnya).

We bumped into each other again in the souvenir shop. Oh well, just can't help laughing "cowok berbando yang ketakutan pas naik Pirates of the Caribbean" LOL.

Day 6: Disneyland Tokyo (Part 1)

Disneyland Tokyo, 25th Anniversary this year...
Disneyland station n hotel, trainnya berkepala Mickey (jendelanya).
2 sisi istana / castle (with Walt Disney Statue and tree), back and front (kamera saya kotor oiii)
It's Thursday, normal day, and yet the Q is killing me... Each ride at least 100 minutes mannnn!
Q for Pop Corn is 2 hours!!! (My tour mate asked her mom to queue for her).

Benci deh, terlalu banyak orang... too crowded, padahal bukan liburan... Mana gak ada yang cakep pula...

Everything is dubbed to Japanese, so it is not funny anymore, seriously I am quite disappointed realizing that language does play a big part in savoring the theme park...

Makan siang saya, bungkusnya Mickey... hanami di bawah sakura tree makannya haahha

I had hot dog and hot chocolate for lunch (the least Q), and spent my time mostly catching the show (large audience, great chance to get in)... I forgo my hunger on snacking given the longer-than-snake Q everywhere. Hotdog nya lumayan (sosisnya enak, jauh lebih enak daripada hotdog nya NYC), tapi hot choc nya kayak susu ultra cokelat, kalah jauh deh sama hot choc Oz... (Bondan wannabe mengomentari heheh)

Sakura @ Disneyland Tokyo
The castle is actually a crystal shop, so saya masuk ke dalam dan foto2 isinya...

Istana kristal Cinderella

Kristal Miki n Mini Tikus (khusus foto buat adik saya hehe)

Castle, Snow White and Mickey (again, for my sister Riana)

Parade Donal Bebek dari Timbuktu!!! My fav story ever!
Tampang kucel akibat ngantre seharian, mana gak liat kembang api penutupan (the tour always miss the firework n electrical parade show! SEBELLL). So, Disneyland HK I am coming!!!

Day 5: Tokyo 2 April 2008

Day 5, Wednesday, heading to Tokyo from Mt Fuji. Great Japanese breakfast. Mackerel fish, miso soup, tamago (egg) and gohan (rice)... Yummy Japanese breakfast @ Fuji-san hotel

Then we went to Ginza at 10.30am (all shops open at 11am, just like Singapore), warning: all shops closed at 8pm on weekend, just like Indonesia!!! (Singapore is much better, closed at 9.30pm). Ginza is not as attractive as New York's 5th Avenue, Macy's area, Times Square (so you better go to Tokyo first before you go to NYC).

Yunisa @ Ginza, Tokyo

There is a cute panda with SAKURA displayed at a famous department store (Mistukoshi).

;) My mom said when she was pregnant (me inside), she wanted a silver car, but my dad bought her a white car... so I posed with this car haha

Asakusa Kanon Temple, too many people, too smokey (dupa dibakar di mana-mana bo'!)
Produser, ini juga bisa dibuat tempat syuting!!! Jadi kantornya Shinichi :P Rumah prajurit kuno di dekat Asakusa / tempat shopping nya (lupa namanya), sayang dipagari (trespassers will be prosecuted). Bought several souvenirs there... A bit more expensive than Kyoto...

Taman dekat Asakusa, banyak anak main bola, naik sepeda

Jembatan Merah (Red Bridge or was it Rainbow Bridge?) not too sure, but I took this pic from the bus because of the stretch of Sakura tree. The river is quite clean.

Ueno, macet kayak Jakarta, si komo lewat... Ueno is very strategic for taking trains. There is Hard Rock Cafe here, don't think I took the pics though :P
Ueno shopping street, mirip yang di Korea. Most of the things are from China. The size is not really "my size"... Small, petite, and not XS in Western standard. So I still love NYC more hahahah =D
This is Akihabara, the electronic area (special upload for my colleague Swee Kiat who was dissatisfied and kept asking me many times when I told him I only passed by Akihabara and did not stop there as it is not my cup of tea). Oh well, no time, it's not that I dislike gadgets...

The dinner was Chinese food (lobster), quite yummy, but I think it is because the quality of Japanese seafood product is excellent...

My battery all were almost flat (handphone, camera, handycam), so didn't take much pictures. Anyway, the hotel was of Japanese chain and they did not provide any puragu no adaputa (adaptor plug). Susahnya ngomong ke hotel, mereka gak ngerti, they really don't understand what I need till I bring to them my plugs!

I was searching high and low for adaptor, even going to other hotels nearby (Strategic mind), even to the electronic shop in a dept store, even to some convenience stores, but they don't sell it. You've got to find a special electronic shop to buy an adaptor (the dept store technician told me). Mirip di Indonesia aja yah...

When I felt almost desperate, I wished... I had Jemmy's Japanese skill or Bu Johanna's... biar bisa ngomong ke orang2 Jepang itu... But then I met a Caucasian and he told me that he had been working in Japan for 6 months and he thinks that Japanese often pretends that they don't understand English although they understand. Hmm, I think it's because they can't reply you in an understandable English.

My fault as well, for counting on bathroom 2-plug for electronic shaver (the one that is similar to Indonesian and Korean plug)... Not every bathroom has that! So I pledge to myself, never ever leave without my beloved international adaptor... And the tour guide lent hers to a pair of Cinpur (Singaporean Chinese) girls who were unfortunately very selfish until I had to collect again from their room at 11pm!!! Those girls are fat and greedy whenever we ate (kayak gak pernah makan aja, kasian deh haha, bagiku itu makanan jenis itu udah biasa banget as my family is always splurging on expensive excellent gourmet food), so in my thought I label them Babi TBC karena dianya batuk terus, berisik banget dan "Babi satunya" hahaha (I am not an angel, you know, I have my temper every now and then, but fortunately all my good friends are very understanding and love me the way I am). I was really tired by the end of Day 5.

Day 4: 1 April 2008: Shinkansen, Fuji n Sakura

This section contains of several parts: Shinkansen ride, Fuji-san from Shizuoka, Fuji-san from Gotemba (lunch), Owakudani sulphur (kawah belerang), Lake Kawaguchiko, and Fuji-san with snow...

Shinkansen from Toyohashi, inside is just like aeroplane cum "first class" Euro train

Kirei sakura @ Shizuoka where you can see Fuji-san as well

Fuji with colorful flowers: sakura and other flowers (don't ask me the name of the species haha)

This is the bus stop at Shizuoka where all the flowers and Fuji-san are so beautiful

Sakura, Fuji-san, Yunisa-san :P Same spot, 3 takes
Yunisa & Mt Fuji

Picturesque sakura stretch from the bus (Shizuoka area)

Sakura at Gotemba (up close and personal with sakura haha)

Yang memfoto bego nih, pake Viewty

Bento set (not yummy) at Gotemba

I am not into climbing, but despite the freezing cold weather, I climbed 1050 m at sulphuric Owakudani to get the black eggs, 6 eggs for 500 yen. It is said 1 egg will prolong your life for 7 years. So I ate 6 eggs in few days for the entire family :)

Yunisa @ Owakudani

Fuji-san from Owakudani

I climbed 1050 m to see the sulphur and to get the black egg. Oh well, I climbed higher, a real mountain in Jeju, Korea last year hahaha *so fit after the trip... The taste of the black eggs is the same as usual egg. FYI, the eggs in Japan are off high quality. The yolk is always round and orange, not yellow...
The weather was getting colder, around 8-10 degrees Celcius approaching Fuji-san...

Freezing cold Lake Kawaguchi-ko, all are closed due to the cold weather

Day 3: Kyoto: Kimono, Sakura, "Rumah Tosha"

Japan has a lot of temples -- although I am not into temples... It's part of the tour.

Kiyomizu Temple, Kyoto

The memorable part for this Kyoto adventure is I dropped my handycam near the Kiyomizu Temple! Babak belur deh hehehe. I drank the most delicious green tea ever... (and bought that for my dad). And the whole stretch of sakura trees along the way. Unfortunately, most of my pics are blurred due to the movement of the bus (bablur karena diambil dari atas bus yang berjalan).

Sakura dan kabel-kabel berantakan (kalau tumbang, nyetrum gak ya?)

Sakura dari atas bus
Sakura di antara gedung-gedung

Sakura di gang deket kuil Kiyomizu

Berpose di gang sakura itu

I also found a prototype for Tosha's residence (it has a man-made lake, very huge traditional Japanese house. It actually belonged to some general in the 18th century).

Prototype rumah Tosha (produser, saya mencalonkan sewa tempat ini buat syuting!!!)

Day 2 Universal Studio Osaka n Osaka Castle

  1. It was Sunday. The Q was horrible. The tour guide was slow n unclear (so irritating).

  2. It was raining (but I didn't really care coz my stamina was quite good then).

  3. Sakura @ Osaka castle had not bloomed fully (most of them were still budding).

Well, I know how to advise: if you've been to Universal Studio in California, don't expect you will feel "WOW" with the one in Japan... There is no studio tour, everything is dubbed to Japanese. And it is not funny at all to hear something in a language you don't understand :P

Universal Studio, Osaka, Japan (hujan)

me with Snoopy (Japanese couple took this pic for me). Arigato!

Typical store in Japan theme parks. Cute stuff, not my type... :P

There is a Hard Rock Cafe outside the complex (again the one in California is better).

me at Osaka castle park

Osaka castle with budding sakura

Osaka castle... it depends on the angle you see... it is surrounded by tall modern buildings (and messy cables). So you really have to find good angles to obtain "artistic" photos.

Osaka castle with more cherry blossoms

Me and the best sakura @ Osaka castle (see the tall buildings surrounding the castle)

Cherry blossom @ Osaka (not black and white, this is because the dark clouds -- mendung, hujan)

Day 1: Kobe

Day 1: Saturday, 29 Mar 08

Changi - Narita
First, I sat one row behind my actual seat (hahaha, wrong seeing the row number). I think it was the 3rd time I took the wrong seat in this 2 years flying alone here and there *_* Sumimasen!
The headphones didn't function, so I asked the stewardess for exchange. The food was OK, I ate pork with rice (thank God I didn't choose the pasta with fish, it looked not yummy). Note to self: don't order seafood again after the SQ food to the US... getting sick of eating them!

NRT-ITM (domestic flight to Osaka)
I was upgraded to the business class, don't ask me why. They didn't deduct my mileage, somemore *_* Among all the tour group, it was only me who got the upgrade. Lucky me, huh? It's been years I didn't fly business class (the last time was domestic flight bought by my parents when I was small hehehe). Really pampered in business class, the stewardess asked me whether she can put my bag to the overhead cabin. The ratio of stewardess : passengers = almost 6 :20, if I didn't count wrongly. I boarded the plane earlier as I was in business class, and there was this young Japanese guy flirted with me for a few seconds while he was heading to the economy class. *Too bad, not my type*. I was the only "young girl" sitting in a spacious business class seat. The rest were either married couple with young children or old Japanese businessmen. This time around I ensured that I took the correct seat heheheh =D

Both Narita and Itami didn't impress me. Standard airports.

Kobe
Taking self photo after tonkatsu dinner (disappointed, why the tour gave Western-Japanese food for my first meal in Japan)

The first frozen budding sakura I saw in Japan. It's a famous area, MOSAIC

The view from my hotel room wasn't that superb... (picture not shown)

From Changi Airport

I don't bring my laptop with me, this is typed from free 15-min usage at Changi. Based on the Internet search I performed yesterday, it seems when I reach Japan later, cherry blossoms will be "the best viewing" stage. *yawning*
Couldn't sleep well last night because the air conditioner is leaking n my room gets very warm. Then it was difficult to call a cab due to my inexperience in using Viewty from LG (this is my hp for roaming).
And guess what, I think in my face there is a warning written: Ini orang Indonesia lhooo as the Malay taxi driver assumed that I would be taking Garuda and surprised when I said I am taking ANA. (Hurray, my mileage increases... unlike Asiana last year to Korea, group has no mileage). I didn't utter a single word in that taxi n he still could know that I am Indonesian.
Then the check in counter Indian lady asked me my return ticket to Indonesia. I told her I am a Singapore PR. And she still demanded to see my Singapore 5-year visa hahahha... Nasib nasib...
BTW, Bu Johanna n Ki Ageng wished me that my weird dream may come true... although now I am feeling like... busyet kenapa sering apes minggu ini...
To be updated once I return to Singapore with the sakura photos.
Warm regards, (really warm, I think my metabolism is really up)
Yunisa
